Mardi Gras is the biggest single event in the New Orleans region.  Over 1 million people attend Mardi Gras festivities.  The year-long economic impact of Mardi Gras is over $465 million (City of New Orleans).

With over 65 parades and countless private parties, events, and balls in the New Orleans region during the 18 days leading up to Mardi Gras day, locals are working hard and playing hard.

While summer signals the start of tourism season in many markets, it is the opposite for New Orleans.  Summer has always been the lull in our jam packed local calendar.  Though in recent years the long summer gap has filled with new events like Bayou Boogaloo, Oyster Fest, Essence Fest, and Satchmo Fest to name a few.  Conventions still come to town too, they are just not quite the blockbuster sizes of the rest of the year. 

 One secret many local consumers have figured out is that it is sometimes easier for locals to enjoy the bounty our area has to offer when the crowds are thinner during summer months.  Though it sometimes feels like a small town, the New Orleans DMA has over 1.4 million people and many of them enjoy getting out and about over the summer while schedules are more relaxed.
